Juozapas Jakštas' Carved Crosses

Juozapas Jakštas (1940) is a Lithuanian folk sculptor and public figure. Jakštas was one of the first in Lithuania to pick up the old tradition of carving crucifixes, when still under the Soviet communist rule.
He has created more than 200 wooden sculptures, tombstones, bas-reliefs for on altars and decorative carvings, full of Christian and traditional Lithuanian symbolism.
